A Camera for Every Need

"I took this camera to Costa Rica with me recently and it took phenomenal photos of all kinds of plants and animals. It was great on the beach as well and could handle extremely humid conditions without losing picture quality. The close-up zoom worked great for flowers or even a bird in a far off tree. The sports setting was great for hummingbird shots. The vibration sensor handles quite well, but not as well..."  Read Full Review

It was great on the beach as well and could handle extremely humid conditions without losing picture quality. The close-up zoom worked great for flowers or even a bird in a far off tree. Overall though, it is a great camera for any kind of shooting. It is definitely worth every penny."

"I am a sideline photographer for my kids' teams. The sports setting is amazing. The zoom is unbelievable. The adjustable lcd screen is handy for taking pictures down into the huddle. I haven't figured out all the settings yet, but so far, this is a camera that I will have for a very long time and hopefully grow in to. It's heavier than the others I compared, but that is the tradeoff for all the features and the super zoom, so it was worth it."

OMG!!!

"I needed a compact to take with me along with my D80 on vacation this summer. When I began playing with this P90, I couldn't believe what it could do. Yes, it is a compact, but that zoom alone is enough to make it the BEST compact out there. Do you know what a 600 mm lens would cost for my D80? PLENTY!! But, I got the P90 for [$]! I am uploading a picture of a very red moon that I took WITHOUT a tripod. I had the zoom wound all the way out (yes, this is even with the usually terrible digital zoom) and rested the camera on my hand which was on a patio table. I am just blown away by this little camera. I think because of its light weight, that I will just take the P90 on vacation and leave my D80 at home."

"This camera has been a wonderful back up for me. There is times I just don't want to carry a big DSLR around. I have taken many photo's with this camera and have entered many of these photo's in contest. I have gotten several Editor picks. I am a very proud owner of this Camera. It will do almost as much as my dslr. I have played with the settings and this camera does everything I need it to do....take wonderful pictures. There is no disappointments here."

Great multi-purpose camera! Amazing fps

★★★★☆
4.0

"Great all-purpose camera! Incredible 15-fps produces great pics - esp. for sports. Easy to use. Very solid feel. Rubberized grip areas very comfy. Excellent EIS. Excellent on-board editing/cropping/sizing capabilities. Nitpicks: full zoom needs tri-pod for optimum crispness; video is competent but HD has me spoiled; must remove lens cap before powering on. Nonetheless, the P90 is the best camera for my needs in this price range."

Not the Nikon I'm Used To

★★☆☆☆
2.0

"I have both a film and digital Nikon SLR. My point and shoot digitals have always been Sony. I ventured into this advanced P&S based on decent writeups on reliable electronics review sites. What I never read, and was very disappointed to experience, was the way the telephoto mechanism worked in this model. What is described occurred on two different cameras - the first was replaced because Nikon Service and J&R thought this should not be happening. The issue; even closed the lens barrel rattled inside the camera body. When using the telephoto, the lens actually had a visible droop as it extended from the camera. Over the course of 4 days of fairly constant use (on vacation right out of the box), around 700 shots, the telephoto wheel stopped self centering - it seemed as though that mechanism just had a hard time overcoming the friction of the track of the barrel.

In addition, there are no lens threads allowing for a filter, and the camera does not come with a hood. The lens is really out front and vulnerable."

    Pros:

  • Easy to setup,
  • Easy to use,
  • Large clear lcd,
  • Simple controls

    Cons:

  • Poor quality,
  • Short battery life

P90 saved my relationship!

★★★★★
5.0

"This camera is a powerhouse.

Very user-friendly settings and instructions for non-technical users, i.e my girlfriend :) Don't see a need to upgrade to a D-SLR. Can't beat the price.

The shutter speed is a bit sluggish for action shots, but quality easily overcomes faults."

Photographers seeking high performance with a long zoom in a compact body now have the ideal camera with Nikon's unew P90. As part of the flagship Performance Series of Coolpix cameras, the P90 offers new features that include a 24x Optical Zoom, a new 3.0-inch vari-angle LCD monitor with tilt function and anti-reflection coating; and 15 frame-per-second (fps)* high-speed capability (up to 45 frames). The P90 is the ideal photographic tool for photo enthusiasts, travel photographers and consumers with more advanced photography skills. The P90 blends the best of the digital compact and D-SLR camera worlds, allowing more advanced users to really stretch their photographic capabilities.

The key to the versatility of the P90 is its 24x Optical Wide Angle Zoom-NIKKOR ED Glass Lens. This lens offers unbeatable compositional freedom, with its wide angle (26mm) to super telephoto coverage (624mm). The broad range lets consumers capture a variety of shots and scenes, ranging from sweeping landscapes to close-up action shots taking place on a sports field.

  • 12.1 Megapixels for stunning prints as large as 20 x 30 inches. This is plenty of sharp resolution to capture the finest details, crop creatively and produce incredible enlargements.
  • Amazing 24x Optical Wide-Angle (26-624mm) Zoom-NIKKOR ED Glass Lens - quality optics provide exceptional images. The lens is built on a proud heritage of producing precision camera optics that deliver superb color and razor-sharp results. This amazing lens offers unbeatable compositional freedom with its wide-angle (26mm) to super telephoto coverage (624mm). Sweeping landscapes can be captured as well as zoomed-in close-ups of the action taking place on the baseball or soccer field!
  • Huge, Bright 3.0-inch Vari-Angle High-Resolution LCD and Electronic Viewfinder makes it easy to compose and share your pictures with family and friends. The vari-angle LCD will tilt and rotate out on a 90-degree angle enabling you to get those high-angle and low-angle shots. EXPEED is custom-tuned for Coolpix and applied optimized technologies render natural-looking pictures of incredible quality and quick response so you will not miss that special moment.

4-Way VR Image Stabilization

  • Nikon's Optical VR Image Stabilization compensates for the effects of camera shake by moving the image sensor. This produces clearer, sharper results in lower lighting or unsteady conditions.
  • Motion Detection automatically detects moving subjects and adjusts the shutter speed and the ISO setting to compensate for camera shake and subject movement.
  • High ISO 6400 capability gives you sharper results when shooting in low light or capturing fast-moving subjects. This creates new opportunities to take sharper, more natural-looking photos in lower light conditions. ISO 3200 and 6400 are available at 3MP or lower resolution.
  • Nikon's original Best Shot Selector (BSS) automatically takes up to 10 shots while the shutter is pressed and then saves the sharpest image.

Program, Shutter Priority, Aperture Priority and Manual Exposure Modes give you ultimate control over your pictures. The D-SLR-type mode dial on the top of the camera provides quick access to greater personal and creative control. Now, you can adjust the camera's settings for any type of light conditions and get as creative as you want!

New Sports Continuous Scene Mode for shooting at up to 15fps, up to 45 frames, when you set the resolution to 3MP or lower. These high-speed capture settings help you stay ahead of the action. Whether it is a swift golf or baseball swing, or the fast action on the soccer field, at 15fps you will capture that action.

Nikon's Smart Portrait System

  • In-Camera Red-Eye Fix automatically fixes most instances of red-eye in the camera. You may never see red-eye again.
  • Face-Priority AF is Nikon's face-finding technology that automatically focuses on up to 12 faces in a group portrait.
  • Smile Mode automatically releases the shutter when your subject smiles. The camera will detect the subject's smile and automatically fire the shutter.
  • Blink Warning displays a warning message should the camera detect your subject has blinked.
  • D-Lighting rescues dark or backlit images by improving brightness and detail where needed.
