"For a pocket point and shoot camera this is ideal. This DMC-FX150 replaced a previous Lumix model that was damaged. Although the previous Lumix was smaller and lighter, the FX150 blows it away on features and picture quality. The ability to switch quickly from 4:3 to 16:9 makes for more interesting pictures when traveling. The picture quality is stunning. When I showed different people the photos I took on ..." "After read some "top" compact camera reviews and looking for anything with 28mm lens plus manual apperture and exposure settings, I decided to buy the FX-150. My other option was Sony W300 (I'm very satisfied with my old Sony cameras - F717, V1, H1 and H2 -, and want to buy the Alpha 300 from B&H soon!). Unfortunately, this time I didn't had a friend travelling to USA (I ever ask them to buy photo gear for me f..." Read Full Review »

"This camera is a bit schizophrenic. Pro features like camera RAW encoding, high resolution, and manual modes are there but hard to use. On the other hand there is an overabundance of amateur features; so many that the picture opportunity may be gone before you find the one you want. Over all the results are great and the camera is very attractive in black and small enough to carry in your pocket."

"I bought this as a travel companion to my Canon DSLR and lenses, to use
when I don't want to lug the gear. The photos are sharp, right on with
color, and the HD QT mov's are surprisingly crisp. I find the menus
intuitive and easy to use. I find little noise in the dark areas when
fiddling in Aperture. Unfortunately, Aperture doesn't support these RAW
files yet, but I'll cross my fingers that Apple will correct this.
There's no zooming when shooting video, but since that's not this unit's
primary function I won't sweat that. Lots of nice features, and I can
highly recommend it after three days of play."

"I purchased this "Lumix DMC-FX150" a week ago. So far, It's working great, I mean, greater than I expect.
I am a professional photographer and actually from Japan. So, I am not really sure about US point-shoot camera market, but I know about Japanese one and in my research, in Japanese market, Panasonic LUMIX is the No.1 brand in there for now and they stood above the biggest camera brand like Canon or Nikon a few years ago. The best seller model is "LUMIX FX40" not "Lumix DMC-FX150". But still I think "Lumix DMC-FX150" also the one of the best point-shoot camera.
I think the main reason for that is from "Stabilizer". They put "Stabilizer" on point-shoot camera first in the world.
That is a great feature and was the trigger for No.1 a few years ago. In spite of success of that, they didn't stop evolving the LUMIX brand. They have been adding a variety of functions and features.
Let's say about "Lumix DMC-FX150", this is the first point-shoot camera having 14.7 mega pixels in the world.
Secondary it is also in the first group that has RAW file systems as a point-shoot camera. (I think only this "Lumix DMC-FX150" has RAW file system in a real compact point-shoot camera because I think the point-shoot cameras which are like "PowerShot G10", "Nikon COOLPIX P6000" or some like that, are not a real compact real point-shoot camara, almost like SLR and too bulky to carry, not for daily life camera or It's like for professional not for ordinary camera people).
Thirdly, it also had a real manual exposure not by exposure compensation. You can adjust apertures, shutter speed and ISO.(That feature is only by "Limix DMC-FX150" except for those cameras like too big point-shoot camera I mentioned above.)
And it has high ISO 6400 and more and more features!
In conclusion, I would like to say "Don't stick to biggest camera brand Canon or Nikon". Japanese other brands, in fact, have more efficient and sophisticated functions and features than them.
"Limix DMC-FX150" gives you excellent stabilizer, 14.7 mega pixels, RAW file systems (More, it allows you to shoot by RAW + JPEG!!), Manual exposure, ISO 6400, Leica lens and an elegant design!!
I forgot to mention the design, that is also one of the reasons for No.1 japanese share. "Limix DMC-FX150" has the classic design. Most Japanese point-shoot camera's design are just like a toy that don't deliver us the feeling of superiority and quality.
For now, I think "Limix DMC-FX150" is the best point-shoot camera in the world.
Don't be picky about insignificant things like x3.6 optical zoom (I think it is enough as a pont-shoot camera.), Battery cover is easy to open, cannot zoom in video mode, those can not be the reason to miss this amaizing one.
Let me say again, Panasonic Lumix is the No.1 Brand in Japan beyond Canon or Nikon.
Recently, I've heard Panasonic stopped to produce this excellent camera in order to get ready the next model.
But now is the chance to get it. Almost all shops start to sell this by half price!! Or wait and see the unseen next breakthrough. Thank you so much for your time to read my poor English."

"The specifications as listed are not quite right. It appeared Panasonic was putting out a DSLR quality compact with creative exposure modes like Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority. But, alas, it ain't true. Having said that, the Leica lens is pretty fantastic and the depth of field at 28mm equivalent and f/2.8 is considerable. So, if your looking for sharp landscapes and snapshots, this will do the job. When the specs say f/2.8 to f/5.6 and f/9 to f/18, they mean the maximum aperture to minimum apertures at the extremes of the Zoom range. For example, you have only two choices at 28mm equivalent - f/2.8 OR f/9.
After taking some test shots, it appears Panasonic has not really gotten rid of the noise, even at low iso's. But if you're willing to accept some loss of detail, the noise suppression is pretty effective at ISO100 and 200.
After getting over the dissapointment of no creative modes and limited aperture selection, I still recommend the camera since the image quality is really very good up to ISO200 and acceptable at higher ISO's for those grab shots. With the 14MP RAW file processing I can get sharp reasonably low noise 12X16 prints out of less than 6 ounces of camera - pretty impressive."
