"Pioneer Plasmas are exceptional in picture quality. However, when you have a failure, their product support is very poor and very, very costly when available. The Power switch failed on my Pioneer PDP 5030HD and they wanted me to send it into Pioneer and they were going to charge me $600 just to replace the Power switch. Pioneer wouldn't even give a local Authorized Pioneer Servicer the necessary part to make th..." Read Full Review »

"I was torn between going with this traditional plasma solution and the new TFT LCD LED units from Samsung/Sony. I'm glad I went with the Pioneer Kuro since the picture quality when hooked up to HD TV channels or Blue Ray disks is absolutely superb. In particular, I am floored whenever I watch the ESPN HD channels, esp NBA basketball. Further, I find the overall quality of the picture is even better than what I sampled in the electronic stores. In general, I found the LCD LED units too bright and after awhile my eyes would hurt. I know stores tend to pump up the brightness, but I find the amount coming through the Kuro just right. Still best TV in the world."

Pioneer Elite KURO 60" Plasma TV - PRO151FD Review
"I've owned numerous LCD / Plasma TV's.
The 'best' TV always was wall mounted in the living room.
That was a 2001 Pioneer Plasma 43inch... No LCD could ever match it's image quality and motion ability.
Well my wife surely would not be happy if I returned with a like-size flat panel and it looked "the same"
So I did alot of homework and an added bit of insurance by going up in size.
After a serious side by side with Samsung Plasma and new LED products the Pioneer Elite TV's came out the clear winner.
The Samsung LED B8000 240hz was in my shopping cart until I started watching fast-paced movies. The Reason I picked the 240hz Samsung was the store display made it look 3Dish... It also had been calibrated professionally vs the other models which came from the factory.
However issues emerged after spending some time with this unit... Issues to the point where I would not have been happy at home.
Particularly things like human hands in motion (while running) or horses legs during a race.
LED is great but it is still LCD-LED for a reason...and that reason is it has a hard time with fast action and processing those scenes.
LCD-LED manufacturers have done a great job compensating for that problem by marketing bigger processors (240hz) for example. However once I noticed the "halo" around fast moving objects caused by the processing. Every scene started to bug me.
I decided to trust the name that since 2001 (for me) has led the world in plasma panel production and testing. Pioneer.
Best Buy had the 50inch for $2499 and the 60 inch for $4499 (Elite models!)
I could not believe my eyes as I had been searching for non elite to keep costs down.
After Purchase an install of the 60inch Plasma I am blown away by the color of these panels. HD is like your sitting on the set of your favorite show. They need to do a better job with the makeup on some of these broadcasters as I can now see every imperfection!!! Yes it's that clear.
I purchased a Pioneer Elite Blu-ray player and movies like Red Flag Fighter Pilot, Speed Racer, Transformers. It is like watching an IMAX movie.
My Calibration tech who installs alot of TV's and fixes the error corrections etc. was shocked when he did my calibration. He was going to use my TV's chart to brag to peers and customers on how a panel should be made. The set was nearly error free from the factory. He would not "talk" about other brands of TV's i.e. Samsung, Sony etc.. out of professional courtesy. However he made the comment that "Pioneer products" are clearly night and day over the competition. He totally understands why this level of quality cannot be done cheaply and why Pioneer chose to go out of the TV business vs ruin there name.
He also mentioned Pioneer is still in business in other areas and there will be no trouble getting parts atleast for the next 10 years (As required) but more then likely through the unit's serviceable life.
After owning a Pioneer plasma since 2001 and after the purchase of the new elite. You will be missing out big time once these Pioneers are gone....It is a shame that these cheapo LCD's and plasma's have caused a quality brand to go away. I am super glad I got one before the end and at a great price.
I had Geek Squad mount and calibrate the TV. The Calibration needed to be done after the TV had a certain amount of time on it ... so they do not happen on the same day.
Geek Squad installation was well worth it.. They even organized cables from existing equipment and installed everything neatly.
They do not run power cables through your wall for safety reasons so prior to there arrival I had an electrician install a flush mount recepticle on the wall prior to there arrival.
I had purchased 4 HDMI cables seperately and had them ready for there arrival as well.
Good Luck in your search!"

"I have been receiving HDTV signals for over 10 years. The Pioneer PRO-151FD is the best flat screen (plasma or LCD) that I have ever owned! This plasma has inky black levels, excellent shadow detail, superb color calibration, a wide viewing angle, and does not smear fast-moving images. My plasma video sources include Blu-ray 1080p/24 and 1080p/60, as well as HDTV signals from cable, satellite, Internet & an over-the-air antenna. For performance, there is nothing better!
One area for improvement concerns wall mounting of this plasma. The 3 HDMI horizontal rear inputs do not easily accommodate insertion of heavy-duty, high-performance HDMI cables & connectors. With flat wall mounting, there is barely enough space behind the plasma for bending these expensive cables. I now see that the Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-141FD is configured with vertical connections.
One minor annoyance comes from the piano-black, glossy frame around the plasma. While its appearance is elegant, the glossy finish reflects any light source in a room.
Other than those minor issues, I highly recommend this plasma!"

Pioneer Elite KURO 60" Plasma TV - PRO151FD Review
"I've had this t.v. for about 3 weeks and it's the best thing that I have ever gotten. I have been researching tv's for a while and was down to this model the special edition 65" sharp and the 65" panasonic plasma. The reason I didn't want a plasma originally is the fact that i do a lot of gaming. And the burn in effect kinda scared me. But I also wanted the best picture out there. As far as burn in, that has been no prob so far. seeing that i have had it only 3 weeks. But the BB employee that sold me the set told that pioneer, at a convention, let the model stay on for 96 hours straight with the red pioneer logo on and afterwards, it took 45 minutes and the burn in was completely gone. I don't know if that helps but it put my mind at ease. As far as the picture, it's breathtaking. I love coming home to this set. I'm not a tv "nerd" so I can't quote you technical numbers on how good it is, but i know what my eyes tell me. And believe me, you can ask my wife, I have spent hours looking at different sets at different inputs from blu-ray to reg. tv. This picture no doubt is the best. I would definitely recommend this, if you want the best. Do some research and utilize the wonderful ability that price matching gives you. BB dropped the price over a grand for me have been extremely helpful the entire way. Also, we run a ps3 on it, hd-dvr cabel on it and regular dvd hook up by component cable. everything looks awesome, but especially blu-ray. Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to the best picture out right now"
