"My sister bought this for me because I wanted to have highlights for the summer on my dark brown hair ( the box reccommends it for medium to dark brown hair). So ok... my sister does my hair and the box doesn't exactly say how long you should leave it on your hair for except to check every 10 minutes. So I did... after about 25 minutes it started to look blond. ( I didn't want platinum blond hair I just wanted..."  Read Full Review

"My hair is long and thick, I was thinking of using this product without the cap. I was just going to pull strands and apply the highlighter. Has anyone else ever done this? If you have long hair, going to a salon in my opinion is useless. They look at me like I'm crazy and then they tell me they need to cut my hair before they put highlights. They say "your hair is too long and thick", we need to take some off! So that's why I like to do my hair myself. :)"

pretty color, painful process!

★★★★☆
4.0

The user manual ain't got nothing on this review.

"I bought this product to highlight my very long, thick, brown/black hair, and like may other reviewers, was worried about the potential of orange hair when highlighting. I got the kit home, and started pulling pieces through the cap, and it was a very long and painful process. It may have to do with the length and texture, but it took more than 2 hours...>_>. After applying the color, I left it in for 10 minutes, and it was fully developed, which was a nice surprise. Then came the part where the instructions said to gently remove the cap....and it was stuck to my head, and had to be ripped out, and I had the hugest knot in my hair...it took a few more hours to comb out! The end results were good though, my hair had a pretty caramel color, and the highlights looked natural. The product works well, I just had a lot of issues with the highlighting cap....I think it is designed for much shorter and straighter hair."

    Pros:

  • Great color,
  • Natural look

    Cons:

  • Difficult,
  • Time consuming,
  • Uncomfortable

Time Consuming, but Totally Worth It

"Revlon Frost and Glow is a great product that provides salon-quality results. It certainly isn't quick and easy to use, but anything that is will not give you salon-quality results. I love using caps like this because of the gorgeous, natural-looking distribution of color.

I have used similar products with pleasing results, and was excited to try this for much cheaper than my previous highlighting kit. I did straighten and thoroughly brush my hair before putting on the cap, as I find that makes it easier to pull through. I did the top of my head and the face-framing parts myself, since they're going to show the most, and had my beauty-ignorant husband do the rest. I had him work from the top down. Any big mistakes (a ton of hair coming through the hole) can be pulled back through by hooking the hair from the bottom of the cap. He did have a few big chunks, but they spread out once my hair was dried and it all looks great now! My hair also tangles a lot while using the cap, but I just gently comb the strands out.

I consider my hair a medium/dark brown, but it looked closer to the dark on the box. The after results give an overall lighter impression in my hair, so it looks like a much lighter medium brown with blonde highlights. I was worried about getting the really streaky, trashy look of bright blonde in dark, dark hair, but that wasn't an issue. To get this effect, I used every circled hole in the cap, and a few extra holes around the front and top.

A big concern for me was the shade. I have very pale, rosy skin (a nice way of saying a very red face!) and oftentimes lighter hair will just emphasize the red and make me look almost ill. This color came out just a little ashier than most, but still a nice, bright color.

As a warning, I was horrified at my hair when it was wet. Of course, wet hair is darker, and it looked like I had brassy blonde streaks against dark, dark hair. You may be scared, but don't rush to the blow dryer to see the end result. Your hair can't take the damage just yet! Let it dry naturally, then use your blower/straightener as little as possible. I promise it will look much different dry!

Overall, this product is very time-consuming and you'll definitely need someone to help, but I'd much rather use this than pay $80 or more in a salon for the same results. For me, this is the perfect product. For those not willing to suffer just a little for beauty, this product isn't for you."

Revlon Frost & Glow Honey Highlighting

★★★★★
5.0

"I have a level 6 Brown hair (light brown) - I started highlighting my hair with Clairol Nice n easy Original and Max Highlights - These products definitely will turn your hair blonde, which was cool, but there is no toner in the world that would make it work. Clairol doesn't have a Honey Highlighting product...

Had to get realistic in terms of brunette with blonde highlights so I used Revlon Frost n Glow Honey- it worked - achieved more natural look.

I only left in 15 minutes from the time I started putting product on - just gave me a few shiny pieces that were natural looking.

If my hair were darker it might have turned orange but with light brown fine hair, I had no orange.

Wish I could do the blonde but don't want to put out the money or time.

P.S. Do yourself a favor and buy a cap and hook from Sally's as this box comes with the flimsiest hook ever."

"I just love Frost and Glow. I've been using it for years and my hair always looks professionally done. I can't mess it up. I do find it a little difficult pulling it throught the cap myself at times but that's when I get a trusty friend to help and if she does a good job I may even share with her.It does take awhile to do but it's worth it. Thanks Clairol."
