"I went through four of these units from Home Depot before I found one that kinda worked. I like the remote but it only works within 6 ft of the main unit. The backlight constantly flickers and display segments fade in and out whenever they want. The unit finally quit completely after 6 months of use. The designer should have tested this unit in the field before sending it to production. I have ordered a Hon..." Read Full Review
Hell hath no fury like an angry reviewer.
Cons:
"Unfortunately, I fell in love with this unit instantly after installing it. It works beautifully, and without the complicated temp ratios you must maintain with other manufacturers. However, the LCD screen became defective, after only one year, and will only display parts of the screen. This makes it impossible to adjust temperature, or even see the current temperature setting. The LCD itself is not broken (no bad pixels) because I can still see the whole thing at different times, so it is obviously in the programming...so, I reset the unit. Bad idea. Now, I cannot read the screen, cannot adjust the temperature accurately, cannot set up the programmable functions, and the unit resets itself every night. I wake in the morning, to a frigid home, only to find the culprit to be the thermostat, which has adjusted itself to 40 degrees. Shopping for a new one today, as the winter months are upon us. Pity...I was actually really happy with this unit, and the customer service, when I installed it, was phenomenal!"

Cons:
"I bought this thermostat to replace an older rite-temp model (8050c) that just plain quit after only a year-and-a-half. It had had a few issues, but the reset had always cleared them up. Last week, it just went blank and wouldn't do anything. So I went to home depot and got this new 6030.
THE GOOD: It looks very sleek and has a touch screen that works very well. User interface was fantastic. Quite easy to install and program. If you are familiar with the brand, navigating and set-up is a breeze. Oh yeah, and a 5 year HD warranty...can't go wrong...right?
THE PROBLEM: I noticed that at any given time the "actual temp" (as shown on the t-stat screen) would jump up as much as 4 or 5 degrees and then bounce back. This would happen randomly in a matter of less than a minute. This would cause my furnace to short cycle. The t-stat would drop to 60* and call for heat long enough to bring on my draft fan for about 15-30 seconds, then jump back up to 64 or 65* and remove the call for heat. I tried adjusting the swing, but it still would not overcome the random jumping. After 2 days of hearing my furnace try to kick on for about 30 seconds and running to the t-stat to find the temp jumping around, I gave up on it.
I am not sure whether this was due to a faulty design, or if I just got a faulty unit, but after this second rite-temp brand t-stat failure, I decided to do some research and get one with good reviews. It is too bad, the design, look, and interface is excellent. I would have given it a "5" if it would just have worked."
"I purchased this thermostat in July 2008 and it worked great. The installation can be a bit confusing as this unit is designed to fit just about ANY furnace/AC unit made, and it worked for mine with no problem. I did contact customer service just to ensure I understood the instructions and had the wiring correct, which I did. Customer service is excellent, open from 8am to midnight eastern time and the wait to reach a person was less than a minute.
Now into heating season, less than four months after intstalling the unit, the touch panel went out. I contacted customer service again, and again got right through to a rep. The rep asked some basic trouble shooting questions including if I was using fresh alkaline batteries (the instructions mention this several times also) I was and had already changed them out with new to see if that couldl have been the problem.
The final response was that it needed to be returned. I indicated that I was not able to locate the recipt and he said that it should not be a problem as the unit was only introduced seven months ago.
I am anxous to see how the replacement goes.
When the thermostat works, I like it. The fact that it gives seven days individual programing is great for folks who work flex time or dont work five days per week.
I am only giving this three stars since the touch panel broke in less than a year. Any product can be defective and I see no reason to only give one star unless multiple units fail.
If my next unit works properly, I will give it five stars."

I did find the installation a bit confusing - wiring was fine - it comes with stickers to mark your old wires and I just copied the old thermostat wiring. It has jumpers though and I had no idea how to set these. Called tech support at 11PM and was very pleasantly surprised that they had an actual person there to talk to at that hour. They told me the exact jumper setting (don't know why they can't just put that one in the manual) for me, and POOF its been working flawlessly ever since.
You can progam almost every detail (temperature swing before unit turns back on, adjust temperature display to match other thermometers in your house, etc, etc). If you have an old thermostat with a lever you really owe it to yourself to get a 7 day programmable unit - it'll easily pay for itself in a few months."
"I am on my second RiteTemp thermostat. The first time, the touch-screen quit working a few months after I bought it. Since you need to drill four holes rather far apart for this thermostat -- I can't cover 'em up with any other thermostat. So, I returned this one and exchanged it for an identical version.
Bad move. Just tonight, a few months after I installed the new one, the touch-screen again stopped responding.
The RiteTemp website is no help. Their customer service, as a company, is terrible. I asked their advice on how to get the screen working again and they suggested removing the batteries. This reset the entire thermostat to factory settings, which I can no longer reprogram because the touch-screen still doesn't work. So they suggested wiping the screen with some cotton swabs. None of it helped, so my house decides to heat and cool itself almost at random.
I am at my wits end with this product, and I speak from experience because I have installed two of them -- and both have failed. Do. Not. Buy. It."
"This thermostat has been working well in my home for a month now. It was easy to install and very easy to program.
I bought this programmable thermostat for 2 reasons:
1) It has a "temporary" setting as well as "Hold" temperature setting. In the past, my wife would drop the temperature down to 65 degrees, thinking it would cool the house quickly and then she would forget about it and leave the house on and errand. Hours later, my AC unit would still be trying to get the house down to 65 degrees in 90 degree heat.
With the "temporary" setting in only kicks on the heat or AC for an hour or so, and then goes back to the pre-programmed target temperature.
2) It also has 2 levels of "locking: - although the means to unlock it is not a PIN or anything difficult.
The touch screen is tough enough to withstand my 10 year old smacking it - until I showed her you only have to hold your finger gently on the screen for 1 second to get the backlight to come on, and then you can change the temperature."
"I bought this unit after installing a nice new 2-stage furnace and central AC system in our home.
The touch screen on the unit would not allow me to program the unit. Some things would work, but not everything. For instance, I could go forward in time, but not backwards.
So I took it back for replacement.
Home Depot was great - as always!
I had lost my original reciept and they simply allowed me to exchange the bad unit for a new one.
Now the second unit is doing the same thing.
What a pain!
I don't have the reciept. So I can't return it and get my money back. Shame on me. Lesson learned for sure.
I have since ordered a new Honeywell "Contractor's Grade" thermostat from the contractor who installed my furnace/AC system.
Probably should have done this from the start.
I would not recommend this unit.
Sorry."
"I have 2 zones in my house so I bought 2 of these units. I installed one unit when I noticed that whenever the unit was working, the temperature on the unit was about 3 degrees higher that the actual temperature in the room. As soon as the unit was turned off, the temperature went back down. I thought that maybe the unit was bad, so I swapped it with the second unit I bought. The unit behaved in the same manner. I had to put back my original thermostat and am returning both units. Also, the battery cover and the wire cover are really flimsy. They are held on what seem like pencil erasers that plug into the unit. It seems that the covers will loosen up over time. Also, I had ritetemp thermostats before and liked them very much, but this unit has this tiny, flimsy 'stylus' that is not connected to anything. One can easily loose this pen. This pen is used to aid pressing the touchscreen. The whole unit is so thin, that when screwing the unit to the wall, you can see the unit flex. They give you these standoffs to give you extra space between the wall and the unit, but when you install them, the gap is large enough to see all the holes and wires underneath the unit."
"I bought 2 of this units for my home. One works very well with my lower level simple HVAC system (A/C and gas furnance). However, for my upper level heat pump w/ aux. It is a mystery. I contacted customer support multiple time and they let me tried different wiring. However, my aux heat is never kick in during normal heat. Only if I set that jumper to 3A position, then aux heat will be on but my heat bump won't work during that setting. Besides this unit asked you to tape off your E wire (for emergency heat). In order to use Emergency heat, you have to open the top cover and move a jumper from one position to the other. It is bit of inconvenient. I will return this unit and get a Honeywell instead."
