"Newer model Mac's have deserted Firewire 400. Yes 800 is faster, but I am not dicarding Two Terrabytes worth of storage just to be a tad faster. This adapter inexpensively bridges that gap. Just snap it on, and plug it in. Perfect: and inexpensive...." Read Full Review

"Unless the firewire port on my iMac is not functioning, this little converter doesn't work with either my external HD or my video camera. After reading all the rave reviews, I am sorely disappointed to have wasted $4 in shipping and another couple to send it back...." Read Full Review
Pros:
"I just recently bought a new mac book pro and needed a converter for my fire wire cable, so I went to B and H, they took care of everything that I needed. I went directly to that section of the super store And told them what I needed, they knew exactly where it was and had the product for cheaper than I could have bought it on [...] . [...] Now I can import files from my camer or harddrive using firewire 400 with ease. All I do is plug in my FireWire 400 to 800 convertor into my computer and then plug in my camer or hard drive and can go on about my editing as usual. Thanks B and H for making this process as fast and easy as possible."
Pros:
"For about a year, I've had an audio interface that connects via 6-pin FireWire 400. My old laptop died, and I bought a 13" MacBook Pro, which only has a 9-pin FireWire 800 port. This adapter lets me use my audio interface with my new computer. The adapter fits snugly around the end of the firewire cable and into the FW800 port in the laptop. Bus power and data transfer work as expected. It's not a complicated adapter, but this one has a clean, durable design, and it does the job perfectly."
Pros:
"Since my new iMac (2009 model year) only comes with the 9 pin Firewire 800 slot, I use this adapter to connect my Maxtor Time Machine hard disk via a Firewire 400 cable (the Maxtor only has Firewire 400 6 pin adapter). The other way to do this was for me to get a 9pin female to 6pin male adapter - apparently that is extremely hard to find! This product is made with professional quality, and has a rubber like outside which can withstand torture![...] Can't really give anything less than a 5 star!"
Pros:
"I replaced my old Apple laptop but I had to factor in my external hard drive I use for backups. It can only connect to a 6-pin firewire port. My old computer had 6-pin and 9-pin ports, but the new one only came with a 9-pin. I didn't want to have to buy a whole new hard drive so when I found this little converter, I was rather pleased. I was slightly worried that it wouldn't be compatible with my Ext HD, but when using it, except for adding slight length to my firewire cable, I was able to move anything from the Ext HD to the new computer without a hitch. Thanks B&H for offering this product."
Pros:
"I recently switched from my old computer to a new Mac Pro. My new computer has 800 FireWire ports but the old one only has 400 FireWire ports. All my external hard drives, my DV Deck and components only have 400 FireWire ports. With the 400-800 FireWire adapter I can hook anything up to my new computer without any issues. This adapter saved me hundreds of dollars."
Pros:
"yet again B+H has the right product for all our audio and visual need. the audio interface maker didnt make light of the of fact new mac book pro's require a 9 pin adapter to hook up with standard firewire cables. the adapter becomes a solid companion to the cable creating a nice fit no signal disturbance, which was my main concern. [...]"
Pros:
"I travel a lot with a new MacBook Pro (with no FW 400 port) and a FW400 WD portable hard drive that uses the USB port for power. I wanted the shortest, smallest adapter to use this HD with the 800 port and this little baby filled the bill perfectly.
So far, it has worked seamlessly & weighs nothing."
Pros:
"Like many other MacBookPro owners .... you will find this adapter to be a life-saver if all you have to connect with is the older style FireWire 400 connection .... the new MacBooks can only accommodate a FireWire 800 cable. This adapter allows your older 400 cable to work ......
this has worked well for me ....."
Pros:
"This adapter solved my problems with after I purchased a new Mac Pro that only had FireWire-800 connections. The only bad thing I see and it is a very minor things is it sticks out about 2 inches and the connections seems like it could be more secure. That being said, it was well worth the price."
