"I do not know what Sony engineers were thinking when they put the irritating power on chime on this tv. You cannot turn on the tv without disturbing everyone in the household. A silent power on should be the order of the day. This tv does not have a headphone jack. I had to order a $60 headphone amplifier in order to view late night ball games and movies using the "audio out" jacks. The tv speakers have to ..." Read Full Review
"Let me start by saying I gave my 5 star evaluation based on the capabilities of a ccfl backlit LCD vs other similar tvs. Obviously this tv will not do quite as well against an RGB LED backit XBR... anyway, I love this TV!!! I have spent a lot of time comparing 46" sets in this price bracket and the EX500 blew them all away in my opinion. I actually bought an LG 47LH40 and had it at home for a week. This gave me time to fully evaluate it for my primary purposes - games, blu-ray, and PC. Both have beautiful color, but the Sony stands out with better black levels and contrast. The 120hz processing on the Bravia is much more natural with less artifacts and cleaner panning camera scenes. The Bravia also seems to handle fast motion better than the LG at 60hz. (Very important if you're a gamer) The Bravia also has some things that I use that the LG lacks: built in cable tuner, PIP on the PC input, and analog audio output (the acoustics in my living room are great for my analog stereo, don't judge me lol.) All in all, I think this television has superior picture quality, better looking motion, and more cool features than any of the others in its price range. The value of this LCD is fantastic, I think it's a bargain for what you take home. This is probably about as good as it gets for a fluorescent backlit LCD right now. WELL worth the money. I also still have a 32" Bravia that I bought 3 years ago and still love. It's proven reliable and still looks great, so I have no hesitation in buying another one. The only reason I didn't get this tv to begin with was because I had to find it online as they were too new and not on showroom floors yet."
"On 2/28 I picked up the Bravia from an electronics retailer. The sales rep told me the unit was a new model for 2010 and they had only 2 in stock (one being the floor model). I was surprised to learn the dynamic contrast ratio to be 150,000:1 (the retailer was trying to closeout other models and I suspect the rep actually wanted the Sony for himself because he tried telling me the resolution would be "fair" and the DCR to be less than 30,000:1). Incredible video display out of the box. The cable guy left my place about an hour ago and I have not yet calibrated for optimized video/audio quality. But, the standard configuration far exceeds my expectations. In 2005 I purchased a 50 inch 1080 DLP rear projection and have been very pleased with performance of the unit. For several months I have been looking for a great deal on a quality flat panel. The new Bravia is perfect and I applaud Sony for introducing a high quality, affordable, aesthetically pleasing product. I am VERY HAPPY with my purchase!!! Thank you Sony!!!"
"This is our 4th HDTV and the best by far. If you're on the fence about 120hz vs. 60hz and LCD vs. LED-LCD, here's my take on both: 120hz is worth the extra cost, LED-LCD is not. Why? If you like sports and movies, you'll notice a difference with 120hz in motion and sharpness/contrast (but not with the next jump to 240hz, humans can't perceive this). LED has two things going for it: lower energy consumption and "infinite" contrast. The standard LCD uses about $23 worth of electricity a year, an LED-LCD would cost you $200-$400 more upfront, for an annual energy savings of around $10. As for infinite contrast, humans can perceive around 20,000:1; the standard LCD now has ca. 150,000:1, already beyond human perception; the LED-LCD has 1,500,000:1, that sounds impressive but is far beyond human perception. My decision for 120hz standard LCD was made after viewing a 60hz LCD, 120hz LCD, 60hz LED-LCD, and 120hz LED-LCD (all Sony), side-by-side and tweaking the settings from the factory defaults. The 120hz LCD won based upon price and no noticeable difference in Blu-Ray content compared to the 120hz LED-LCD. Each of the 60hz models were perceivable from their 120hz counterparts. Hope this helps, happy viewing!"

"This TV has a Fantastic picture. We have our bluray player hooked up to it and the picture is amazing. Even regular DVDs look amazing. I would definitely recommend having HD cable or satellite service to thoroughly enjoy the picture while watching television programs. However, we currently only have regular cable and the picture is still great. If you get close to the TV you can see the pixels, but watching from the couch you would never know.
When we turn on our blu ray player, the TV automatically turns on and changes settings so we are ready for our movie without having to switch inputs or find an additional remote which comes in very handy for remote challenged people like me.
We love that it has a PC input. We stream netflix movies from our laptop all of the time. Even the picture you get from netflix is great, which frankly I was quite surprised by.
This TV is a great size for our family room. We have a sectional sofa that puts us about 10' from the TV and the picture is big enough that there are no viewing problems.
This TV has a great sound to it as well. We don't have a surround sound system and with the speakers on the TV, I don't feel that it is very necessary for us right now. Of course one day we will make the plunge, but we'll have to wait until we get our TV paid off first!
We had been looking at several different brands and sizes and specifications for about 4 months before we finally decided on this TV. This TV had everything that we wanted at a price we could afford, with an astounding picture and quality sound..
We are very happy with our Sony and know that you will be too!"
Pros:
"This TV has a better picture than any edge LED TV, and costs hundreds of dollars less. 120Hz makes fast pace video games very sharp as well. Unfortunately the remote is very bland. Small buttons, and no button backlight like most other brands offer. My bummer with the Input Select menu is that it shows every input, whether you have anything plugged into it or not. This TV has about 9 inputs all together, I use 3 of them. Having to scroll through all inputs to change device is unnecessary. But when it comes to an HDTV, it's all about picture.. and this Bravia has it. 5 stars."
"I just plugged in this new TV and it looks great, especially in the Vivid mode. Colors are rich and contrast is great. (My last TV was a Sony Trinitron tube TV, so this is my entry to HD.) I was thinking, though, that this and all other flat panel TV's should have a thinner bezel, either for larger screen or smaller footprint. I also don't like the look of the bottom bezel being gray while the rest is black; it looks inconsistent. Otherwise love it. The remote has a clean layout of buttons and is more sturdy than previous models thanks to the slide-out design (not to mention you can't lose/break the battery cover)."

"I have had this tv for about 2 weeks now and I have to say this is a great buy!! When viewing channels in HD the picture is stunning and watching anything on blu ray is crisp and life like...I have a 7.1 surround sound system so I can not offer an opinion on the tv's speakers which I suspect wont sound good coming from such a thin tv. For those wondering what the contrast ratio is, Dynamic Contrast Ratio : 150,000:1
I only have one negative about the tv and that is when viewing channels that are not HD the picture is terrible,I have that problem on my other HD tv as well, its really no big deal as more channels switch to HD"
Pros:
"I had been patiently shopping for a flat panel TV for months. Was waiting for LED to drop in price until a great salesperson at B&H explained that the LED thing was over-rated, and after looking at many LED TV's on the show-room floor that had the contrast boosted to the max, I agreed. I saw this 46" Sony listed at [$]...Its a killer TV. I mainly watch movies - blue-ray look stunning but even standard DVD's look great coming from the blue-ray player. Super rich blacks, super sharp res. Turn off the motion-flow enhancement unless you like your films to look like they were shot on video. You still get the amazing sharpness and fast image processing of the 120Hz processor but you retain the natural 1/48 sec motion blur that is native to every major motion picture that is shot on film at 24fps."
