"It needs a software patch for WIDE format setting. When changing the channels, the analog NORMAL format setting is overwritten by the FULL (the default HD format) digital format setting. The specific unit I purchased had background clouding, a hot pixel and from time to time the HDMI connection was displaying the output in red (unless I would restart the TV and DVD Player)...." Review
The Sony BRAVIA 46" S4100 has been sitting in my living room for about two weeks now, and I'm very happy with it. The picture quality is above average, the menu UI is intuitive and everything has worked almost exactly the way I would expect it to work. The sound from the speakers is definitive and of good volume.
It doesn't hurt that it has SONY on the front of the TV for those who are buying this to show off to friends. I've had a couple of movie nights using an attached PS3, and have had nothing but good comments about the setup.
What could be better about the TV? Well, it appears that this is the only 46" LCD that Sony makes, that doesn't come with BRAVIA Link. Considering I'm building my living room around Sony components, I might have spent the extra money on the S5100 which does include it.
Secondly, there are times when it takes 20-30 seconds for the screen to light up after pressing the power button for the TV. This is not a huge problem for me, but I can see how this might be a nuisance for some less patient people.
Overall, I'm very happy with my purchase. Some of you may want to search for the S-5100 that appears to take care of issues I've presented here, but others may want to use the price savings of this model. I'd recommend this TV."
"This tv was a birthday gift for my husband.Neither of us are MEDIA TECHIES so it doesn't take a lot to impress us, but we are totally blown away with the picture on the HD cable channels. It is crisp and clear. The controls are easy to use. Sound is very good.I had seen a similar model, slightly more expensive, [...]a slightly different model no. WHen I called SONY with the two model no's, Sony said this one was newer technology with better contrast. There is no "picture in a picture" feature like another tv we own, but truthfully, we never remember to use that feature.Using a regular DVD player (non-HD) produces an acceptable picture so there's no need to rush out to get an HD-DVD player.A friend[...]set it up for us so I can't comment on the setup or connections.B&H - another home run! Great price, [...]."
Pros:
"This is the latest basic Sony HDTV model. I've tested it with a DVD, BluRay DVD, and Playstation 3. They all look great for the most part, although I tend to notice that off-shades of white or cream colors tend to be a tad greenish if they're not bright in the picture. To adjust how things display on the screen is relatively easy, although the choices to fine tune things is limited compared to other brands. This TV is placed in a well lit room and the glare you see on screen from windows is very minimal compared to the glass protectant of other TVs. Viewing 46 inches from 10 feet is rather pleasing on the eyes with vivid detail if what your watching is Hi-Def. The remote could have been better like universal or at least have the buttons glow in the dark. If you're a fan of the black coloring on screen, this model does a pretty good job on making black dark in color, but not dark enough. However, I found my eyes got use to it and didn't pay much attention to that detail.
For those who want a good quality TV, are not extremely picky on options or the amount of fine tuned detail on how things view on screen, and are budget conscious but would like a large HDTV; I recommend considering your purchase of this model. If you're the latter, you'll probably want to look at something else or a better model of Sony. I'm happy with my purchase!"

"If you are looking for a 46" HDTV, then look no further. Ease of use and the picture quality is fabulous. I've purchased Sony products in the past and have never been disappointed. I ordered my TV from B&H [...]and setup in no time at all! I am VERY satisfied with B&H and my new Sony Bravia 46". Love it!"
Pros:
"Excellent LCD. My in-laws came over and after watching it for 5 minutes they had to go get one! I had to tell them that this is with HD reception. Only issue with the Bravia S Series is that the framerate is 60hz. This is somewhat noticeable while watching sports in hd. If your a sports enthusiast go with the Bravia W Series that has 120hz framerate. I looked at the highly rated Samsung but comparing picture to picture in store I preferred the Sony. If you have the space skip the 40 inch and go with the 46 inch. You will be amazed! If your not willing to upgrade your cable to high-definition don't bother buying this amazing tv!"
Pros:
"I have had this tv for about 4 days now and so far I really like it.
The sound is really great on this unit.
I do not currently have HD programming, but I do have this unit paired with a Sony 3500 blu ray player connected with HDMI. I watched Iron Man on it to test the picture of the tv and the picture was crystal clear. The first time I watched it it was rather clear but then I realized the player was only on the 480p setting, once on the 1080p setting the image was gorgeous and crystal clear. I also watched an older Blu ray movie (Hellboy) this movie was fairly clear, but somewhat grainy in some parts. Burnt dvds and dvds look alright, but not that great, but I believe this has more to do with the upscaling capabilities of the blu ray player and not the tv. Watching tv on non-hd channels doesn't look half bad the image kinda grainy, but still somewhat clear and very watchable. That was to be expected though considering this tv is meant for HD programming. I can't wait to see how HD channels look.
If you are a gamer this TV is great too. I have an Xbox 360, but the model I have doesn't have the HDMI port so I can only run it at 1080i, but the image is very nice. I haven't noticed any lag in game play. Playing Halo 3 on a 46" TV with an awesome picture is a very nice experience.
I have a couple responses to the other reviews:
-The tv does make a slight clicking sounds only when you turn it off. They are very slight and barely noticeable and do not bother me at all. The clicking only lasts maybe 1 to 2 minutes max.
-The TV does take about 10-15 seconds from clicking the power button to having an image produced on screen. Again, to me this isn't a really big deal either.
All and all this is a great tv. After testing this unit by seeing the picture quality of Iron Man on blu ray running at 1080p I was very happy to see a very sharp and clear picture. I'm glad I choose this tv instead of the Samsung I was looking at. The Sony handles blacks a lot better whereas the Samsungs have a brighter screen, which doesn't look as great for darker films.
I bought this unit for $1,200 (total was $1,465 with tax and best buy warranty). For a 46" tv with great picture quality, this tv is the way to go."
"I had a small vertical line of bad resolution/pixel color on the left-most part of the LCD display. Didn't notice it for probably a week but got progressively worse only when on HDMI. Went back to BB and they tested it on HMDI, confirmed that all 3 inputs were bad. Got replacement TV under protection plan, hooked it up at home and had the same issue! Called BB immediately and they tested all of these TV's in stock for bad HDMI, all six were bad. They said they must have gotten a bad "batch", and to expect a recall. Went back for 3rd time and exchanged for KDL-46V4100, at a discounted rate due to all my inconveniences. I would recommend you test the hdmi and look on the edges of the screen very closely before taking it home. Good customer service though..."
"I use this tv in a sunny room which is why I bought an LCD instead of plasma (which I also own). It works like a champ in the room; no problem viewing the picture. It takes a few seconds to turn on for some reason which is a little annoying (did I hit the power button on the remote or not?)."
