"This tv has a great picture for watching sports for playing video games. The sound is a little on the low side, you have to turn it up almost all the way to get decent volume, but overall a great value. Price was good and haven't had any issues with this item. Glad we bought this...." Read Full Review

"Picture is decent, sound quality is not. Also the first unit I bought was defective. It has this Bravia sync thing which enables you to easily control other Sony components. I bought a Sony sound bar to add surround sound. All I had to do was plug it in and viola. Now I have xbr sound on a way cheaper tv. Not sure I shouldn't have just bought a better model in the first place though. I would probably recomm..." Read Full Review

"I already own a 52" (I think) Sony Bravia LCD TV which is the "main attraction" in my living room, being as how I am divorced/single and live in a 1 BR apartment. Having been TOTALLY SATISFIED with the quality of my so-called "big" TV (the Sony 52" Bravia), I decided and elected to stay with (and within) the SAME brand and make/model, with the exception of the size. Truthfully, I had priced, looked at, and admired the 30 inch (or so) size Sony Bravia, and thought it could/would be an EXCELLENT choice, given the dependability and picture quality of the 52 inch "big brother". Unfortunately, for me, when I had accumulated the necessary funds to be able to order/purchase said 30 inch TV, B&H was "out of stock" on that size & particular model. I wanted to cry! Being 58 years old, I am too well aware of my habits (and circumstances) to postpone such a MAJOR PURCHASE, (at least to ME it was pretty MAJOR), so I opted for the 40 inch size HD-LCD-TV by Sony instead. [...]Being handicapped, and living solo, it took me a couple of days to do it all, but I unpacked it, set it up, connected it to a (new) cable TV box, and ALL has been fine since then. In fact, could not be better !PROS: The picture quality is GREAT, and that is ststing it mildly. Also, even at my age, the sound quality is wonderful. In "short", it is a GREAT BUY, for the money paid, and I would HIGHLY reccomend it to you, or yours. You WON'T be sorry!CONS: The box/unit/TV is NOT "light", in weight, and you SHOULD have AT LEAST 1 other person available to help with the "unboxing and initial setup" (physically) of the unit. I am handicapped, dis-abled, or whatever you choose to call it, and did it alone, but it took me several days, and I don't recommend it. For reasons unknown to me, it has a very annoying (to me) chirp, squeek, extreemely loud BEEP upon start-up, which I have so far been unable to find a "cease" or "cure" for. Further, the so-called "manual" that comes with the unit lacks much, so you would be well served to go ONLINE, and DOWNLOAD a more complete booklet from Sony.ALL of that said, it is a GREAT unit/TV, is "Energy Star" compliant, produces a GREAT (almost photographic" picture, and unless you are "sound critical", in which case you should add an EXTERNAL surround sound system, it provides a GREAT PICTURE, good quality sound (from its own internal speakers), and is an EXCELLENT VALUE for the $$ spent! If you want better than THIS, well ..... caugh up a few more grand, and then you can run around and tell ALL your friends & neighbors what a "wonderful" TV you have ... UNTIL they ask you what you paid !"
Pros:
"This is an excellent TV at any price but when you consider the price, it's outstanding. You don't get the advanced features like wi-fi, internet apps, etc...but if you're looking for an excellent Hi-Def TV with some pretty good extras, you can't go wrong with this set! Also, I pre-recorded the Final Four and watched it on this set and the clarity was absolutely amazing. This sets' refresh rate is 60 HZ but the absence of 120 or 240 HZ was not missed at all - no blurring, just absolute clarity. Excellent, Excellent Deal! I definitely recommend it!"
Pros:
"Well i just have this tv 3 weeks, and i must say satisfied customer, first at all, i received [it quickly] after order it, the setup its quite easy and fast (despite when you run the setup ask for times of 50+ mins to configures analog/digital channels it only took a couple of minutes), great color and viewing angle, and you can sinchronize it with a sony home theather who has the same function letting control the tv and home theater with just 1 remote, the only cons i have its the remote its big, im pretty sure sony could had made it smaller, and beside wasting so much space they coul put some more "shortcut" buttons like pip function, you have to go 2 menu steps to activate it, not complicated at all, but still could be easier, but even if its not a led tv, the image its great, i love to watch hd movies or play with my [game console], you wont regret buy this tv and the price its just great for a 40" tv of this quality"
"I wanted a TV with many different types of hook-ups and this was it. It has a beautiful display and has connectivity to everything I needed.
Sony's tech support wasn't so great but after talking with others, I easily found the set-up help I needed.
I'm using it as a second monitor for my Mac (but I wouldn't recommend using their cables or talking to Sony support about help) and for TV and games.
This TV satisfies my needs, and wants.
I would always recommend B&H for product, price and support, but I wouldn't recommend Sony for support.
BTW- B&H has my support and encouragement and no one paid me to say these things. I'd love it if Sony could understand my needs as they have. Apple even did better and I know their support is not rated the best."

"This review is for the second of two of these I've bought. Like the first one so much, I bought one for my Dad. The first review mentioned no ill efects from the 60Hz speed, however I have noticed some blurring on golf tournaments. But only on golf. When they zoom to follow a putt, the peripheral grass is blurred. Otherwise, no issues, even on movies and football games. We hung this one on a wall, took our time and had no problems."
Pros:
"My first LCD after several years of shopping and waiting for the right price range. Picture is crisp and clear and everything worked properly right out of the box. Ambient sensor really works well.Sound was not a consideration, as I use this with a home theater system and a computer with Windows Media Center (internet TV looks GREAT).This unit works especially well with the non-HD cable channels (most TV's I have seen were barely viewable). Overall, a great product.[...]"

"I had planned on getting a 32" tv for my bedroom, but when I got to the store, it was just an $80 upgrade to a 40" tv. So I opted for the larger picture and am glad that I did. My last 40" tv was a bravia W series I got three years ago at twice the price! The picture appears the same to me on both televisions...beautiful. When I got it home and installed in the bedroom, however, I was disappointed by how hollow the sound was coming from the television. I tried the minimal settings to adjust it, but couldn't find one better. The problem may be that the speakers are on the bottom of the frame, so the sound is shooting down instead of forward. So I swapped it with the living room television which has better speakers that are facing forward. So now this television is hooked up to external speakers in the living room and I am very happy with it. It has a really nice power save feature which turns the television off after no activity from the remote for a set amount of time. 4 HDMI outputs are great. The PC interface is odd, however, for a mac computer. It has a VGA port in place of an HDMI port and only a female audio headphone jack input. A double male headphone jack cord is a hard cable to find. RCA inputs would have been nicer."

"We had purchased a Sony Bravia TV two years ago and have been delighted with the picture and sound quality of the unit. So, when we decided to buy another TV for the kid's room in the basement we were interested in finding a Sony TV but did not want to pay premium prices. We were happy to find the Sony KDL-40EX400 available at a fantastic price. The main difference we have found between the first Bravia TV we purchased (which was three times as expensive) and the model listed above is the sound quality. Our earlier TV has much better sound system built into the TV. The picture quality is the same. I highly recommend this TV as a less expensive alternative to the other Sony models."
Pros:
"I have nothing negative to say about the product, it's so amazing that even the smallest details are put into it to make the television experience even better than before. The HD is clear and the size is perfect for almost any room. The sound is quality and different picture settings, it even adjusts to the lighting in the room and has a power saving option that dims the screen a little. Sony is amazing, and the specs prove it, for the price it definitely is beyond worth it.
Next up is to get the compatible Sony Blu-Ray with Bravio and a sound system."
