The picture is awesome- especially if you have the HD cable line hooked up. The sound/volume... well... it's okay. The problem is: the volume changes, depending on what channel you have it on. That's a pain to always adjust the volume. Sometimes, we need to put the volume on max just to hear it!

The WII games: the picture is fantastic on it."

Fantastic HDTV

★★★★★
5.0

"I've had three Sony Trinitron televisions and they are all still going strong--even the one I gave away that's over two decades old! This is my first HDTV and I love it. I've had it now for a few weeks and I like it more and more each day. I watched the Olympic opening ceremonies and was amazed by the picture quality. I found the tv easy to set up. Currently I have it connected to a cable box, CD player and VCR. Over the next few months I'll be adding a BluRay disc player and a receiver with speakers. So far, the only negative thing I've found is that it takes a bit of time to turn on. I don't know if that is true of all HDTV's or just this one. This TV would also work very well connected to a media pc. That may also be in my future. I would highly recommend this Sony."

    Pros:

  • Attractive,
  • Easy to setup,
  • Good connections,
  • Great picture quality,
  • Great resolution,
  • Reduces glare,
  • Simple controls

    Cons:

  • Pricey / poor value

Somewhat confused.

★★★★★
5.0

"The picture is great and the sound excellent. Everything I wanted excpet for the confusing information on the USB port. There is basically nothing about what is actually needed to be able to use the USB port except that it will work with "some sony microvault USB devices". It does not work with my sandisk drive - the most commonly purchased manufacturer of USB drives.

There needs to be specific information about what is compatible before you go out and spend money on specific devices. Why does it have to be Sony USB drive specific? Why is there nothing in the specs of the TV about which sony USB drive is required? Very poor documentation on this. This reflects on the design rating."

Size Does Matter

★★★★★
5.0

"I was limited in size by our current entertainment cabinet which my wife insisted on keeping. The doors opened out , then pushed inside the cabinet for TV viewing. I was limited to a 32 inch TV, not exactly the big screen I had been hoping for. And this was going to be our primary TV set up in the Great Room. I then decided to take the doors off but had to promise the wife I would re-hang opening out. That idea gave me 37 1/4 inches width. Still for most of the LCD's I looked at, 32 was still the biggest I could get in there. Then I discovered this set, a 40 that measured just a little over 37 inches in width- it fits perfectly!!! And it looks so good that I have the wife agreeing that we don't need the doors-excellent!!!

Also liked the brushed metal frame, no reflection from lights or windows.

I really love this LCD, no motion blur with the 120hz, picture is great, color outstanding.

We just replaced a Sony in our bedroom that we have had for over 30 years and has never been in the shop.

How could I go with another brand- only SONY!!

I would highly recommend this Model and Brand."

Great Value, Amazing Picture!

★★★★★
5.0

"We were in the market for an HDTV and had heard that Sony had the best TV's around. We did some comparison shopping with different brands and liked the design of the BRAVIAs the best, we have a limited space to fit our TV into so the thin sides were a major plus for us. We bought a refurbished unit and have been blown away by the picture quality and clarity. We also got a Blu-ray player and cannot say enough about this TV when hooked up to Blu-ray, the 1080/24p capability is breathtaking. the TV's picture is so nice I don't want to go to the movies ever again.

This truly is the way TV was meant to be watched!"

Sony no Baloney

★★★★★
5.0

"Like many, I read many reviews, essentially Sony vs. Samsung. The sales staff at JR is a pretty down-to-earth, no nonsense, tell-it-like-it-is crowd of guys. I have been buying from JR since 1980. A salesman helped me really distill this down to a handful of criteria and make an easy decision. At this time technology is so advanced that at any given price range it really is hard to make a terrible choice when you are dealing with top brands. I have always like Sony products - they are a solid manufacturer.

I felt comfortable that the Z series Sony LCD HDTV would deliver a quality product and it has. No complaints at all - a superb product."

I would probably buy this TV again

★★★★★
5.0

"Well, the main reason I bought this TV was because of it's excellent clarity and better sound than SAMSUNG has. SAMSUNG does have a good picture clarity. However, the sound on the SAMSUNG really SUCKS! My wife said no matter how good a picture is, if the sound tends to fatique you, this is no good. I didn't want to put an extensive surround system in the kitchen. So, the sound that comes from the TV, becomes important. The sound on this (Z) model is much warmer than on some of the other SONY W, S, and V models. Being an audiophile, the sound is very important to me. And, the newer smaller bezel frame enables this 40" TV to fit into smaller places in my kitchen. The only nitpick I have with the SONY, is that I have to keep the VIVID picture option on all the time. Otherwise, the picture doesn't look as crisp and kind of appears washed out. This might just be a problem I have, because of all the wall of windows I have in the kitchen. With the VIVID option on, PBS programs with senic views are SPECTACULAR. It's almost like 3 dimensional. You feel like you can reach out and touch the person in the picture. And, I also have an older SONY 57" rear projection TV in the family room (5 years old), which looks just as good now as the day I bought it. SO, stick with SONY! SONY has the best reputation for quality and long term reliability. That's what is important to me....Long term reliability.

So, what are you waiting for. Go on and get a nice SONY LCD TV and start enjoying life! This TV is almost mesmerizing, it is so clear. And, the folks at J&R were a pleasure to deal with. Also, the shipping from NY was super fast. I got my new TV in 3 days, via UPS. All I did was attach the base, plug the TV in, attach my outside Antenna, and start programming the channels. And, this TV must have a great tuner, because I get clearer digital pictures from my outside antenna than my brother inlaw does with Cable. You just can't beat SONY and the folks at J&R!"

    Pros:

  • Attractive,
  • Easy to setup,
  • Good connections,
  • Great picture quality,
  • Great resolution,
  • Reduces glare,
  • Simple controls

    Cons:

  • None

Bravia 40" Z Series LCD Flat Panel HDTV 120Hz Black Full HD 1080p, Motionflow 120Hz, BRAVIA Engine 2 digital video processing, Advanced Contrast Enhancer circuit (ACE), 24p True Cinema capable, enhanced XMB user interface, BRAVIA Sync capable Look no further than the KDL-40Z4100 for the most strikingly stunning and flat-out sophisticated HDTV Sony has to offer. With a remarkably slim bezel design, Motionflow 120Hz for the reproduction of smooth, lifelike images, BRAVIA Engine 2 and ACE for deeper blacks and crisp shadow detail, this TV's sensational design is only matched by its picture. But phenomenal image quality and show-stopping design isn't all. The KDL-40Z4100 also includes DLNA compatibility so you can access your digital photo collection over your home network (additional DLNA components required; sold separately). DMex is also on board for an optional digital connection to innovative expansion modules like the BRAVIA Internet Video Link for exciting web-based content. The Digital Media Port (DMP) is included for connecting your portable digital audio devices like iPod and Walkman music players. Full HD 1080p Its a high definition world and the best high definition resolution this brave new world offers is 1080p; thats why Sony has more Full HD 1080p HDTVs than ever before. Full HD 1080p means our connections accept 1080p signals and the display will render that signal in Full HD 1080p. The flexibility of native 1920 x 1080 displays allows any high definition content to be viewed without the need to downconvert images to the native resolution of the display. Take full advantage of Blu-ray Disc players and PlayStation3 systems that can deliver 1080p content. DMex Sonys Digital Media Extender (DMex) offers a digital connection path for optional modules like the BRAVIA Internet Video Link, as well as other modules you can add in the future. Innovative DMex expansion capabilities integrate into the award-winning XMB user interface making HDTVs a powerful entertainment platform that not only meets current needs, but expands to meet tomorrows needs as well. Motionflow 120Hz Technology Motionflow 120Hz technology doubles the number of existing frames by calculating in real time and inserting 60 entirely new frames between the original 60 frames. It uses a special Sony-developed algorithm that detects specific objects, as well as the movement of the overall scene and intelligently applies the right amount of enhancement. Theres more to the story. Unlike some other high frame rate technologies, Motionflow also includes Sonys unique Image Blur Reduction algorithm, which reduces blur from the original source image captured by a camera before applying motion enhancement technology. There are many forms of high frame rate technology in the market today, but only Motionflow 120Hz technology uses special Sony algorithms designed to intelligently detect and apply the right amount of enhancement to reduce judder and deliver a smoother, sharper picture with more natural motion of the original film. BRAVIA Engine Technology The latest version of Sonys respected BRAVIA Engine fully digital video processor uses a collection of unique SONY algorithms to significantly reduce noise and produce sharp, vibrant, life-like images... Dynamic Noise Reduction: Intelligently identifies and dramatically reduces noise in the signal according to the motion and brightness of each scene for clearer, crisper images. Detail Enhancement: Improved image enhancement algorithms render greater overall detail. Contrast Enhancement: Works with the Advanced Contrast Enhancer circuit to optimize the contrast for every scene to create better depth and reality. Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) Part of the cinematic drama in film-making comes from details found in shadows and dark areas of the picture. Sonys Advanced Contrast Enhancer (ACE) uses real-time image processing to dynamically adjust backlight levels for improved contrast without masking details the filmmaker intended you to see. ACE delivers deep blacks in darker scenes, as well as fine details in shadows and other dark areas of the picture for a difference you can truly see. DLNA DLNA stands for the Digital Living Network Alliance, an Industry Standard Networking Capability supported by leading companies in the consumer electronics industry that allows DLNA compliant products to work with one another2. Think for a moment about all of the photos "locked away" on your home PC that you wish you could access while entertaining your friends and family. Now, thanks to DLNA enabled devices, a DLNA-enabled PC can be accessed from the comfort of your living room or family room via a BRAVIA DLNA-enabled HDTV, where you can enjoy your memories with friends and family, without having to deal with the hassle and non-intuitive "PCexperience". DIGITAL MEDIA PORT Question: Whats the best way to connect portable digital audio and video devices to a BRAVIA HDTV Answer: Sonys DIGITAL MEDIAL PORT connection allows the use of an optional DIGITAL MEDIA PORT adapter such as the TDM-NW1 to connect digital devices directly to select BRAVIA HDTVs. Now BRAVIA HDTVs can show photos and videos or play the music stored in select Walkman, iPOD, PC, mobile phones and other digital devices. Your personal digital device even recharges while connected via the optional adapters. 10-bit Processor and 10-bit Panel While its great to state that a TV is capable of creating billions of colors its a whole lot better when you have a true 10-bit display that can actually display them. Sony combines 10-bit processing with a 10-bit panel, allowing 64 times the levels of color expression. What that translates to is smoother transitions from color to color and subtle color changes faithfully reproduced without a paint-by-numbers look. Rich Graphics Delivering a fun user experience is what the new rich graphics are designed to do. Accessing video content and sharing digital photos with your family and friends on an HDTV is now fast, easy and fun. Colorful thumbnails cascade before your eyes allowing you to visually choose what you want to see. Viewing digital images through Sonys photo viewer is now more organized and can be quickly accessed. TV Guide On-Screen Interactive Program Guide The TV Guide On-screen IPG delivers continually updated program listings to users. The guide requires no subscription fees or phone connection and is available at no extra cost to the consumer. Sony is the first company to integrate the TV Guide On-Screen User Interface into a custom interface Sony's exclusive Xross Media Bar user interface. BRAVIA Sync Technology Allows the access and control multiple tasks and system operations with one button ease. BRAVIA Sync is the name for a new family of control features that not only includes BRAVIA Theatre Sync, but will now include BRAVIA Sync. This feature allows the user to control a CEC-enabled camcorder connected to a BRAVIA HDTV via an HDMI cable by using the HDTVs remote control and an on-screen display that shows camcorder transport functions. 24p True Cinema Movies and many prime time TV programs are captured at 24 frames per second (24p). Sonys Blu-ray Disc players wisely take advantage of this by including 24p output capability allowing a compatible connection with BRAVIA HDTVs that have this capability. The benefit You can watch movies in natural, cinematic motion, the way they are seen at the cinema. Every single frame of the movie can now be seen without using additional video processing that converts film-based images to video reproduction. Additionally, 24p True Cinema input capability can be used along with Motionflow 120Hz technology for outstanding fluid motion beyond what you would typically see at the cinema. Once you experience 24p video it will be hard to view video without it. Manufacturer policy does not allow returns on this item - Please work with Sony directly for all product defect / repair issues.
