Staples 8-Sheet Cross-Cut Shredder

"I've had this shredder and while the paper usage states a few pages at a time, at times I've used 1-2 more. To be frank, I would suggest using what is recommended however. There are LOTS of pluses for this low cost shredder. I have shredded literally thousands of papers, all sizes and widths for hours on end (without stopping but for 10 or 15 minutes about every hour, tops). This "low budget" work horse literally went on and on shredding and shredding for me. I had years - decades actually of papers that I needed to shred due to a move. This shredder helped me along. I had this shredder over 14 months, shredding literally thousands upon thousands of papers roughly in the same manner (not something this shredder "should have been accustomed" to do). Eventually, it met its demise. For the price tag of under $40.00 that I spent at that time, this shredder had done more than it was manufactured for. For that, I would highly recommend it for everyday use and junk mail. Just don't jam papers in. You wouldn't want to do that with ANY shredder for that matter. I recommend the shredder lube sheets. They come about 12 per pack and are well worth it. They go a long, long way. I purchased mine with my shredder and I still have about 4 left.



If you're on a very tight budget or even have a small home business and are just starting out, you can go with this shredder. Just treat it kindly and it will serve it's purpose until you're ready to upgrade.



An end note: whoever says shredders are "messy." Well, I would say, all shredders are a bit messy as they shred - you expect a bit of a mess. This model however, was not extremely messy. I found it be easy to clean and dump the shredded papers."

"I thought this shredder would be everything I needed. I don't usually have a lot of shredding, but at certain times of the year I do quite a bit. This one says it is supposed to have 2 minutes of continuous shredding, but I get about 30 seconds! Overheats very quickly. Am on my way back to Staples to return it. Going to find something that will not overheat so quickly."

"I am a pretty practical person. So the price for this shredder, I thought, was such a wise investment... Though quite easy to use, It over heated just after my 2nd run of shredding 6 pages. It carried a smell of over heating metal..and cool down time is half an hour. I don't shred much but I would like to be able to when I need it done. The lid does not lock onto the bin which I think is a hazard. I am not pleased with this product and will be taking it back first thing tomorrow and looking for another, possibly one with a locking cover or lock switch."

"We're pleased, so far. No problem with it overheating, as I'm usually pausing in between putting documents in the feeder. It works so well, I do forget to pay attention to the basket filling up, but that's no issue either, just empty and continue. Love the tiny pieces it makes, and anyone that tries to piece that together is in for a mission impossible challenge.

I will be buying some of the lubercated sheets to keep the blades sharp and running smooth. I think it runs quiet, at least it quieter to what our older strip shredder was."

"A decent paper shredder for [$]. Rated at 75 decibal's it will make some noise. Top could be more secure than just resting on basket. Side locking clips would be nice."

"I have been needing a shredder for quite some time and until I really started researching them I had no idea about some of the pros and cons. My main issue was price. I really didn't want to have to spend $100 for a decent shredder. I mean as long as it shreds your documents it's done it's job, right? Finally, at the right price this shredder came along and the reviews were decent enough so I made the purchase. No regrets. I have loads of paper to shred and this product is getting the job done! The one and only con (and it doesn't bother me as much as it bothers my husband) is the noise as it's shredding, but I assume most make the same noise as they're doing their job. As far as people commenting that the bin is too small, I say - what in the world are you trying to shred?? The bin is fine and by the time it is full, and compacted, it's time for you to let it cool down anyway so it works out just fine. I haven't had an issue with anything so far and that's why I'd recommend this product for quality, performance and price. Hope this helps your decision!"

"Great shredder for the price. Bought it to shred 25 years of tax returns from my mother's 15 year old storage facility. My dad used this shredder nearly non-stop for a week. He shredded over 12 large garbage bags of paper with it. It does overheat after about 5 minutes of CONTINUOUS shredding, but once it sits for half an hour, it is good to go. If you just want to shred items occasionally, which is how it is used now, it can't be beat."

"This shredder does a fine job of shredding. I only do occasional shredding so didn't want to spend $80 + on a shredder. It is noisier than I like but can live with it since I only use it occasionally."
