"Last month I purchased a Trek 7.2 FX and I totally love it. Since purchasing it, I wanted more, and a road bike was the only route to go. I test rode Bianchi, Lemond, Cervelo, Blue, Cannondale, Raleigh, and more. None of them felt as good as the Trek 1.2 to me, the Bianchi was the closest though and was the one I was going to purchase since it was on sale for $699. But there she was (yes my bike is a she, nothin..." Read Full Review »

"I bought this bike a couple weeks ago and have put some good miles on it so far. For the money you can't really go wrong. You will have to spend just about the same on any other entry level road bike. The one complaint I have is the components. I know [$] doesn't get close to "top of the line" components, but in my opinion you should at least get components that are solid. My ten year old mountain bike shift..." Read Full Review »

Trek 1.2 Review
Pros

"I use the bike for general excercise. I've had it about a month and probably done somewhere in the region of five hundred miles. It seems fairly fast. I clocked fourty five miles per hour yesterday which is fast enough for me! It seems fairly solid and sturdy with a nice stiff frame and responsive steering.
The only draw backs were a few early punctures which I have now stopped by just riding more carefully, ie. taking care to miss potholes, and the rear shifter needed abit of altering so it would click on to the high gears easier. Apart from that i haven't had any serious problems.
My friend rides an Allez and after studying them closely we can really see little difference. Either bike would be ideal for somebody on a budget. The only thing the Allez has on the 1.2 is the Tiagra rear shifter, but it doesn't seem to make much difference to me although it may be more durable in the long term. Also, the allez has a carbon seat post. But yet again, it makes such a marginal difference."

"just bought this road bike a month ago. Used it casual riding and racing. It's very light, wieght it on a scale and comes out 19.5 lbs. It weights 4 lbs more than my expensive italian bike. It is fast and responds good. Absorbs road impact well, same as my italian bike. Trek 1.2 is a excellent beginners bike that is comparable to bianchi, panarello minus the price."
"Thanks for the review and comparison! Enjoy your bike!"
Trek 1.2 Review

"The 1.2 is part of Trek's new product line up, and is priced to replace the older Trek 1000. Unfortunately, Trek appears to have downgraded the entire groupset from the 1000. Those components that were Tiagra are now Sora, and those that were Sora are now 2200. That said, you are still getting a high quality machine at a great price, but it's my opinion that you would be better off finding an '07 Trek 1000 as opposed to the '08 Trek 1.2. True, you're not getting the latest "style," but you're getting a better bike, and year old frames tend to come at significant discounts. So, in terms of value, I'm under the belief that you'd be much better off with a year old Trek 1000. And I personally prefer the color options on the older 1000s anyway... :)"

None of them felt as good as the Trek 1.2 to me, the Bianchi was the closest though and was the one I was going to purchase since it was on sale for $699. But there she was (yes my bike is a she, nothing this beautiful could ever be a man), the Trek 1.2 with the same exact price tag. I gave her a shot and there was no looking back. The funny thing is, I wasn't even going to buy the bike today, I told my mother that if she would ride I would buy her a bike, and I got her a Trek 7100 and my dad got a Trek Navigator 2.0. All of us love our Trek bikes.
So, if you don't want to break the bank and want to ride like a star, this bike will definitely help, I love it! The only problem, I had to put the 7.2 FX in the shed because there is only room for one bike in my bedroom, and right now it is the 1.2's room, until I get a Madone :)"

Trek 1.2 Review

"I've commuted by bike around Toronto, Canada for over 10 years now. After owning one for about a month, I can say I really like the 1.2.
Positive things:
Toe clips are excellent for those people who don't like clipless pedals. I don't like clipless pedals.
Two water bottle cages are very handy.
Components are overall good quality for the price.
All the necessary commuting accoutrements can be fit! This was a major thing for me. I have enough frame space for both water bottles, a bell on the stem, lights, a computer, and a mirror.
Negative things:
Frame geometry is no good for short people (5'5") like me without a few aftermarket parts replacements. I bought the 50cm frame and still had to change my stem out to get a proper riding position.
Adjustable seatpost tilt adjustment tends to 'stick' and must be pried apart - please apply some grease to the serrated ridges at assembly, or even at shipping.
I would have preferred Shimano Sora brifters to go with the Sora derailleurs - the front der. can be randomly sloppy even after proper adjustment.
Brake model is not identifiable without e-mailing Trek to request the model name."
