"Well this is a nice product, cheaper and that's very cool for a Trek, but the only problem that i had, and still having with this bike, are the brakes, the promax stuff (rotor and calipers) doesn't work good, i'll have to change it soon or i will die riding the bike. A good pro commentary of this bike is: Nothing happened to the fork and the frame when i crashed at 60Km/h directly with a tree... weird? yah (tnx..."  Read Full Review

"I have reviewed this bike before, but now I use it so much, I feel the need to re review. I have to admit my bike is a bit older and is the 3900 non-disc break which I am about to upgrade because it really needs it. I love the bike however. It's a great starter bike and will do most everything you ask it to (with the proper encouragement). Overall, this is a great bike and has probably gotten even better since it turned disc. I have provided a picture of mine."

A good pro commentary of this bike is:

Nothing happened to the fork and the frame when i crashed at 60Km/h directly with a tree... weird? yah (tnx to the ground, a curve and the badly brakes) I just broke the left handlebar with the impact."

    Pros:

  • Comfortable,

3900 Disc SE is Eye Candy & Trail Hungry

★★★★★

"I fell in love with this bike at first site. It was enough to make me ask the shop owner for a job working at the bike shop! (NO JOKE!) As a girly-girl, I fell in love with the look of the bike. I'd never mountain-biked before, and knew I wanted to start. I was reluctant to spend TOO much money, as, if I hated mountain-biking, I'd be bummed I spent so much money. HOWEVER, this turns out to be a GREAT first-time MTB choice! It turns heads at rides and races (I just raced my first event - competed beautifully), and provides a really nice ride! I was floored by how responsive the brakes and suspension was (as were more experienced cyclists I rode with who gave it a "test run".) My ONLY complaint is that the SE paint is a bit challenging to maintain, but Trek has been very responsive in helping me figure out how to clean up what I come against to bring her back to the original matte white and blue finishes! LOVE THIS BIKE!"

Even dirty, she's pretty! (at EFTA NECS #3)

value for money

"I was presented the bike in July 2011 and have since used it for recreation and the occasional cycling event. I am impressed by the durability of the bike but cannot say much about the quality of components considering its mid-low price. The thing which irritates me most is the squeky brakes. I was told by the dealer to clean the disc and pads using alcohol swabs but this has yet to yield any positive results. Other than this, the seat can be quite a pain in the behind on long distance rides (more than 20km) and also I suggest replacement of handle grips to ergo grips for improved comfort."

Excellent starter bike.

"I bought the 2010 model becuase it was on close out clearance. The only diffrence is the brakes. The 2011 has better brand of brakes.

I was surprised at how light this bike is & how the seat are comfortable. They are however, not comffy for long rides in the city. They are meant for trail riding.

The components are more than adequate for an entry level trail bike. You can always upgrade in the future if one desire, but for the weekender or the occasional rider, you will be happy with this bike.

I love the all black color, attention get'er. lol!"

Awesome Bike

★★★★☆
4.0

"Bought this bike in March, i have over 1000 miles on it and its still riding strong. I ride this bike everywhere, trail road, on the road to the trail, I have yet to find a place i don't like to ride this bike. I am only in high school but I ride this bike to school then spend 2-4 hours on the trails after school, daily so long as the weather permits it. The only complaint I have is the promax brakes suck, they often get stuck shut and do not provide good stopping power, great for gradual stops but they do not grab and slowing stop, this was a huge let down because it makes doing stoppies a pain. But once you switch out the poormax brakes for a set of shimanos and throw on some bar ends and clipless pedals you have one heck of a bike at an awesome price."

    Pros:

  • Comfortable,
  • Durable,
  • Good geometry,
  • Handles well,
  • Lightweight

    Cons:

  • Disk brakes kinda suck

Great all-around bike

★★★★☆
4.0

"I've logged 400 miles since I purchased my bike, and it runs great. The disc brakes work great through the mud during downpours.

My only complaint are the stock tires. They get the job done, but I would prefer something with better off-road traction. I will be upgrading them when theyre worn down enough.

Also handles excellent on pavement. I managed to reach 36 mph downhill, and the bike feels pretty stable."

    Pros:

  • Durable,
  • Good geometry,
  • Handles well,
  • Lightweight

    Cons:

  • Poor tires

"I BOUGHT THIS BIKE LIKE 5 MONTHS AGO AND I USE IT IN THE CITY AND WEEKEND TRIPS THE ONLY PRO THAT I´HE FOUND IT´S THAT THE REAR DERAILLEUR IS NOT FOR HARD USE, IF YOU WANT TO RIDE A LITTLE BIT "SAVAGE" YOU SHOULD CHANGE IT, BUT ALL THE OTHER THINGS ARE GOOD IF YOU´RE STARTING AT MTB.

SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH"
