Superb traction, light, compressible.

"Sure wish I'd discovered these earlier. Before buying these, I typically avoided those shoulder hiking seasons, or elevations when the trail gets littered with patchy ice and compact snow . . . those conditions that're too little for serious gear, but too much for a bare sole. I suggest buying them a little snug, to ensure they stay taut on the sole. It takes a little effort to put them on, but after a time o..."  Read Full Review

Good Traction but too fragile

I suggest buying them a little snug, to ensure they stay taut on the sole. It takes a little effort to put them on, but after a time or two, it's routine. They don't seem to impede my travel at all, and they aren't awkward or clumsy. Too, they are light, and stuff nicely into small spaces. The improved confidence they afford is significant. Lots of value for the little price.

I've used one pair for three winters now, and they appear to stand up well to the abrasion of Cascade basalt. I carry a spare pair in my car for those unplanned walks in the middle of winter."

    Pros:

  • Comfortable,
  • Durable,
  • Great traction,
  • Stable

Yes, they do make a world of difference!

"I got a pair of these to let me tackle the snowy and icy roads in South Dakota. I wasn't sure if they'd actually help, but they definitely do. They don't do much in soft snow, but you don't need much traction then. They work best in harder stuff, ice included. I used them on winter runs and my 1/2 mile commute to work. Never fell once while wearing them. If you take your shoes off and leave them on, they will bend the toe up, especially with more flexible shoes. It goes away, but makes the shoes a little uncomfortable in the meantime."

    Pros:

  • Durable,
  • Flexible sizing,
  • Great traction

Good for a year

★★☆☆☆

"Provided great traction on packed snow (snow build up can be a problem in certain conditions), just ok on ice. Gone through two pairs now that lasted about one season each. Rubber members broke on each heal with each pair. Pretty pricey at this rate but it beats a broken bone. I'll be trying something different this time around."

    Pros:

  • Comfortable,
  • Great traction,
  • Stable

    Cons:

  • Not durable,
  • Rubber breaks,
  • Sole wears out quickly

great on packed snow and ice

★★★★☆
4.0

"These are great for hiking when snow shoes are not required, on packed snow, popular trails, etc. They are easy to carry along "just in case". I have been running with them on ice and they never slip. The velcro of the "pro" model is a must to keep them on your shoes in snow... or you could make your own rig on the regular ones and save [$]. But I have had the regular ones, too, and they do come off on trails. Mine are day-glo yellow which is nice for night running; these seem to only be available in black."

    Pros:

  • Comfortable,
  • Durable,
  • Great traction,
  • Lightweight

Love 'em

★★★★☆
4.0

"Love them! We walk at least 4 miles a day even in bad weather. You don't have to think about the snow and ice underfoot when you have these on. Without them, we almost go down at least 5-10 times per outing.

The only down side is that the snow sometimes builds up under your shoes. It was not a big problem and it seemed to work itself loose on it own...which is more than I can say when I have my snowshoes on."

    Pros:

  • Comfortable,
  • Durable,
  • Great traction,
  • Stable,
  • Water resistant

Both broke on first use

★☆☆☆☆

"These worked well for about an hour on snow and ice. Then the rubber strand inside one of the front springs snapped, leaving that spring dangling loose. 15 minutes later the same thing happened on the other foot. Following directions I had used a Large size on a 11 1/2 boot. Maybe that was a bit too loose, because the springs tended to move about and get out of place. Perhaps that's what caused the rubber to snap, but still I think the product is flimsy."

    Pros:

  • Great traction

Love them

"These work great for running on icy, snow packed trails and dirt roads. I also bought a pair for my parents who have to go up and down a steep driveway in the mountains of CO to get the mail/newspaper, and where before my dad slipped and fell numerous times, he told me now he hasn't fallen at all."

    Pros:

  • Easy to use,
  • Effective,
  • Good instructions / manual,
  • Packs small / compresses,
  • Performs as advertised,
  • Running

Not worth it

★★☆☆☆
2.0

"These worked great, until they broke. I got these for Christmas last year, and used them for the first time over the weekend. They worked great on a hike Friday on packed snow and ice. I was telling everyone I knew how great they were. Then on another hike on Saturday, the rubber broke on one of them. If these were something I had to replace every year or so, that's one thing, but every couple days? I don't think so."

    Pros:

  • Easy to use,
  • Effective,
  • Good instructions / manual,
  • Packs small / compresses,
  • Performs as advertised
