"I bought this based on some reviews I had read. The setup was simple enough if you know what you're doing and can teach it the commands you want from your existing remotes. I did run out of room at one point, but for the price it wasn't a big deal. After about four months of use it just stopped working. It just didn't do anything anymore. I tried new batteries and that didn't work. I ended up replacing it with a..." Read Full Review

"I finally got sick of using 3 clickers to work my cable box, TV, DVD, and VCR. After reading several reviews, I settled on the URC-R6. It's as easy to program as it is to use, and for the price, it's very powerful.
You can do the auto-setup, where you just turn on a component, then aim and click, and it learns the commands. I did this with my TV and cable box, and it worked perfectly. You can also input the manufacturers code, which I did for my older VCR, and that worked fine.
But the best part of all is its' ability to learn the buttons from the original component clicker. I won't go into the details, but basically you put the old clicker nose-to-nose with the URC-R6, and it "learns" whichever button commands you want on it. Amazing!
I am now in complete control of my rather simple home entertainment system. If you have more than six components, you may want to look elsewhere, but for the money, this baby does the trick easily and with no headaches. If you're technically challenged, which I'm not, you can set this thing up in about fifteen minutes. The hardest part is turning on one component at a time. I wish I had purchased this sooner!"
Pros:
"I recently purchased this remote after looking at reviews and trying to find a cheap universal remote that was easy to set up and then use. After looking at remotes from $200 to $10 I decided on this one. I'm not a "power user" and didn't need anything fancy, all I wanted to do was hook up my TV, DVD, Surround Sound/Receiver and Cable. The best thing was how easy it was to set up. All of my components were recognized during the first set-up option (the instructions, which are thorough, offer multiple options in case you can't get your components and the remote to recognize one another). I was also able to quickly customize several buttons to do things I needed but weren't recognized by the original set-up (for example, there wasn't a "page up/down" option for my cable menu so I had to scroll thru each channel individually, so I just set up the up/down channel buttons, usually just for the TV, to be the page up/down in the cable menu.)
The remote looks great and works great, I'm very happy with it and would recommend it to anyone looking for an inexpensive URC."
Pros:
"At first skeptical. Our Home Theater Installer suggested purchasing a replacement Remote control for around $600.00. My 87 yr old mother was constantly having issues with the original expensive LCD $700.00 Remote Control, so I thought I would do a little research. Besides being easy to program, when I did run into a Jam, [...] I give this product 5 Stars out of 5. The price is right also. I just saved my mother quite a bit of money. We programmed a TV, Satellite Receiver, Sound Receiver, and DVD Player."
Pros:
"Our universal cable remote had codes for Yamaha receivers, but none of them worked with the receiver model we just bought. Not wanting to fuss with multiple remotes, we knew this meant that we needed to buy a learning remote.
After reading lots of reviews online, I was ready to buy a Logitech Harmony 670 for $150, but my husband noticed the Universal Remote for $20. We loved that it had both a guide and an info button like our cable remote. It also has both on and off buttons, which was very useful since our Yamaha receiver has separate buttons for on and off (as opposed to one power button). Plus, it is a learning remote and it has a macro function that allows it to turn on and off multiple devices with the push of one button and a simple volume function that allows the volume buttons to control the receiver even when the remote is in cable mode. This plus the power macro means we NEVER have to push a mode button. We wanted simple operation, and we got it!
It was VERY easy to program. The codes provided worked somewhat, but I used the learning function for everything I couldn't program with a code. We are using this remote for our Toshiba TV, Scientific Atlanta cable box, and Yamaha receiver (we'll add a DVD player later), and it is working perfectly. This is the best $20 we ever spent!"
"Replaces all our remotes and is easy to use for non technical people like myself. My husband is very tech savvy and has had several universal remotes that he didn't like. He bought me one of these last year and keeps commenting how nice it is, so this one is for him. If something is up to his high standards and is this cheap, it definitely has something going for it."
Pros:
"Alrighty, I just bought a new 32" VIZIO LCD HDTV which came with a remote that I couldn't program to anything. So I thought my best bet was to find a Universal remote. I searched and searched and I found this one that didn't appear bad (physical appearance) and the price was just what I was willing to pay.
I went to my local BestBuy and picked one up, came home and within 5 minutes I had the remote programed to my VIZIO television and DIRECT TV cable receiver.
As I continued to read the manual, I learned that the controller itself was able to learn off of other controllers. You can program any button on the controller to any button's function on the other controller without fail.
I thought I was done when I started to think to myself, "Gee, I wonder if I can program my stereo..." Mind you, it is about 8 years old. No problem the Universal GOD said.
I ended up programing the following devices: VIZIO 32" LCD HDTV, RCA DIRECT TV cable box, Samsung stereo, XBox 360 console, and my iHome for my iPod.
I normally do not write reviews but I am SO pleased with my purchase I couldn't resist.
If you're looking for a cheap and reliable remote, look no further than this one!!!!!!!!!"
"Setup of the remote is a little cumbersome at first, but once you get the hang of it it goes very quickly. I had everything programmed in under 10 minutes and the macros work great. The only thing this remote won't do that my Harmony would do is select specific inputs without having to scroll through the input menu (these commands are available through the Harmony database but not on my original TV remote). The macros on the R6 are a close substitute and the price cannot be beat."
"This is a basic remote for a good price. I mainly use it for my TV (as the original remote stopped working) and while it doesn't contain all of the features it functions as I need it. The directions could have been written a bit better but ultimately the setup was easy. My only complaint is its range. To operate the remote I really need to point directly at the TV remote control signal sensor."

"Yeah, Harmony rocks, but this little guy came through in the clutch.
Been using a Harmony for years in my theater, but recently upgraded another room and found that a Harmony can't control my Bose 3*2*1 system. What the @%!?. A relatively quick and easy setup with this remote and all my components power up with one button, controls the volume on the Bose & changes channels on the cable box without even switching modes. With a little more programming of the macros, there doesn't seem to be anything this remote can't do.
Not quite as fancy, but it works like a charm."
