"Not much to say - it hasn't crashed. None of the 1 TB green drives I use have crashed yet either, and they've got more miles on them than the 1.5 TB ones I just bought. I had a 2 1/2" external drive die, though, so I'm a little nervous about giving WD a perfect score......." Read Full Review

"Although the print description notes that this drive has a 16mb buffer, the one I received has a 64mb new & improved one. several warnings which advise that to get max proformance you need to go to the WD web site to download some type of special allignment tool if you plan to partition drive or use it for cloning. The 64mb drives are set up with non-standard sectors which make them imcompatible with older more traditional drive structure."
"This drive is not noticeably much slower than the two WD 1TB Caviar Blacks in my system, which was surprising, though my system may have a minor bottleneck somewhere. The price per GB for this drive is the best in the WD product line at the moment. This drive runs cooler (tested via touch and temp monitoring software) than my Caviar Blacks, my WD 80GB, and my WD 36GB Raptor. This drive uses 4KB physical sectors along with 512B sector emulation technology, so you need to make sure to follow WD's instructions so as not to fully gimp-out the transfer speeds of the drive due to improper alignment during formatting. Retail boxes for WD drives are getting smaller and less is included--no more cables or software discs, but no big deal."

"Last week my 1GB Apple Time Capsule fell onto the floor, destroying the hard drive. I ordered this drive as a replacement. It took me about 15 minutes to install in the Time Capsule and less than five to erase with Disk Utility. After that, it mounted and has worked flawlessly ever since. It is much quieter and runs cooler than the original Hitachi that came with the TIme Capsule. It really is a good upgrade and a fine drive."

Cons:
"[...].The drives are surprisingly quiet and not as warm as I have experienced with other 7.2k RPM drives.I've always sworn by Seagate hard drives for mission critical data but the price was too good to pass up for these drives. Running RAID1 in a home media server these should be just fine.Time is the real measure of quality with hard drives so I can't give 5 stars until they have been in service for a couple of years."
Pros:
"I purchased four of these drives to put in a RAID 5 configuration for a server in my home. Within two hours the 1st drive failed and a second drive failed within the month. I had one of these drives for over a year as a standalone drive and had no problems. After much research, I found that the "green" energy saving technics used in this drive make it prone to failure in a RAID configureation. Western Digital replaced the first drive with no hastles and I will have to repeat the process for the second."
Pros:
Cons:
"I am using this new drive to provide more storage on a three year old XP system with space for only one hard drive. Could have installed quicker if I had gotten power and data cables to temporarily connect the old drive while transferring operating system and files. Works great."
Pros:
"Bought 3 of these drives as part of B&H's combo kit with the Drobo FS. Key point of satisfaction is that the drives are queit, and spin down when not in use. Shifting lots of data off my PCs and many little external drives onto the Drobo array."
Pros:
"THat´s really an awesome SATA hard drive! It´s so much quieter than the others hard disks I had in my desktop. And it´s important to say that this is a 'green' product! I´m fully satisfied with this purchased. Thanks!"
Pros:
"Nice drive for the price. The spin speed is 5400-5900. I have noticed a significant increase in the time it takes to write podcasts to the drive. I have another desktop that downloads the same podcasts and that PC if finished in 50% of the time that the WD Green drive needs. I have a 12 mega down on my cable internet."
